STH 67

Client: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Location: Sheboygan County, Wisconsin

Prior to the reconstruction of STH 67 through downtown Plymouth, Wisconsin DOT and the City of Plymouth requested a study of alternatives routes. The existing roadway routed trucks through narrow streets and tight turns in a commercial area, but avoided an at-grade crossing with a railroad. The alternative route avoids the commercial area, but requires traffic to cross the railroad. The alternative route study by Donohue included traffic counts, a signal warrant analysis, utility, right-of-way and hazardous material review, and development of conceptual plans for both options. Coordination was required with Wisconsin DOT planning and project development, Bureau of Railroads, City of Plymouth Engineering, police, and fire department, and local trucking businesses.

The design of the preferred alternative in the urban commercial and residential area includes a complete reconstruction of the road, parking lanes, and storm sewers in a tightly confined downtown area.  Sidewalks extensions provide complete connectivity with the local middle school. Project construction staging and detours help maintain traffic flow during construction for the local businesses and fire department.
