Around the world, 884 million people do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion have inadequate sanitation facilities. Every day, nearly 6,000 people die from water-related illnesses, and the vast majority are children.
Donohue & Associates, Inc. and its employees are proud to be a continuing Country Sponsor for Water for People, a non-profit organization helping individuals in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting locally sustainable drinking water, sanitation, and health education programs.
Water for People's mission is simple, but the results span more than just drinking water and sanitation facilities. Lack of sanitation and clean water leads to chronic and often fatal illnesses. These debilitating ailments often prevent children from going to school and their parents from working, causing a continuous cycle of poverty. Water for People strives to end this cycle and promote healthy conditions, providing some of the most basic of human needs.
To do this, Water for People partners with local governments, non-governmental organizations, and local communities to plan, design, construct, and operate sanitation and water treatment facilities. Local residents are involved from planning through construction and are relied on to operate the facilities once constructed, ensuring a sustainable solution.
The organization has active water, sanitation, and hygiene education programs in 335 communities across 10 countries in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.
